Blown Lux Blow-dry Bar

Blown Lux Blow Dry Bar

I heard a rumor that on set, if Baz Luhrmann thought an actor or crew member was struggling with a scene or having a rough day he would send them off to a hairdresser he hired for this specific purpose, for a blow-dry because you can't do a good job without good hair.

Upon hearing them, I decided these are words to live by.

While I was living in London I used to frequent Blow-dry Bars - magical places where you could get your hair done before a night out, event or if you just need a pick me up. I am a staunch believer that good hair really does make you feel better and more confident.

Upon my return to Sydney, I was a little devastated to find that Blow-dry bars didn't really exist or the ones that did were a little disappointing compared to what I was used to and the only other option was to go to a salon where options were limited and appointments were hard to come by at short notice.

Recently I was invited to an event at Blown-lux, a Sydney based blow-dry bar in Barangaroo, let me tell you - all my Christmases came at once. This place is legit. On arrival, I was seated at the bar, offered a complimentary bellini and given a menu of styles to choose from:

  • Straight-laced: Smooth, professional, sleek $55
  • The bigger the better: Body, volume, sultry $55
  • Off-duty: Wavy, messy, wild $55
  • Date night: Glamourous, stylish, flirty $55
  • Upper class: The classic up 'do $75

I knew I wanted to go with 'off-duty', but I explained to my stylist that while I have fine hair, I have a lot of it and curls often drop out within an hour or so would she think it was still an option. Assured that I could have the messy waves of my dreams, I chilled out and enjoyed my bellini while my stylist got to work.

One of the things I really loved about Blown Lux was how quick they were in about 45 minutes, I had gorgeous messy waves (and they held up for two days which is unheard of for my hair!) but most of all it was the atmosphere that they've created. Blown lux is the perfect place to relax indulge in some 'me time' or connect with friends.

While, to me, the traditional blow-dry bar is about styling pre-washed hair Blown-Lux does have hair washing facilities and offer makeup applications services as well. Beyond drinks, you can order nibbles and it would be the perfect venue for a hens party as there is ample space to sit down and chat away from the blow-dry area.

I implore you to experience the magic for yourself! You can find Blow Lux at Tower 1, Shop 8/100 Barangaroo Avenue, Barangaroo NSW 2000
